Obi-Wannabe

For good or ill, Disney's supposed to start filming new Star Wars movies sometime in the next year or so. It occurred to me that if they need an actor to play Obi-Wan Kenobi-- in flashbacks maybe or something like that-- they could do worse than to cast Scots actor Iain Glen in the part.

Glen is currently starring in Game Of Thrones on HBO as Ser Jorah Mormont, friend and adviser to Daenarys Targaryan.

Personally I think he bears a pretty decent resemblance to Alec Guiness. He's definitely younger, but that could be fixed with some makeup. Best of all he even sounds like Obi-Wan! Every time he says, "Everything has an end, Khaleesi, even the Red Wastes" I think of Alec Guiness. I can just hear Glenn saying, "Sandpeople always ride single file, to hide their numbers."

Iain Glen was also in Season 2 of Downton Abbey as Sir Richard Carlisle and guest starred on Doctor Who (as has pretty much every actor in England, since there are apparently only about twenty of them).

So get with it, Star Wars casing directors! Heed my command! If you need a new Obi-Wan, give Iain Glen a call. I'll expect my usual 10% casting fee, of course.
