I've been an avid Star Trek fan for many decades, but even I have to admit that certain episodes could get a little silly now and then, especially when viewed out of context.

Pink. Why, oh why did it have to be pink?

Did no one on the crew even once glance at the set and gasp in horror (or perhaps suppress a giggle), then approach the director and gently suggest he might want to find a different prop for Kirk to hold?

My parents must be so proud of me right now for this post...
