I've always felt kind of bad for August, seeing as how it's the only month on the calendar without an official time-off-from-work or card-buyin' holiday. So a couple of years ago I decided to create a holiday for the lonely month: Dryer Lint Day!
Celebrated every August 18, Dryer Lint Day salutes everybody's favorite fuzzy gray laundry byproduct that threatens to start a fire in your laundry room lest you're ever vigilant.
Ah, I have fond memories of spending Dryer Lint Day at my grandma's house. The festive Lint Heap piled high in the living room, decorated with mismatched socks. Eating the traditional meal of saltines, steel cut oats and plain yogurt. Fashioning toys and clothing from leftover dryer lint. Good times.
Remember back when everyone was off work on Dryer Lint Day? Nowadays it seems like the holiday's just an excuse to have a big sale. You'd be hard pressed to find even one store that actually closes on the holiday. I fear we've all forgotten the true meaning of the day. Sign of the times, I suppose.
So here's to Dryer Lint Day! Making your towels gradually thinner today and all year long!
When I first saw the photo at the top of this post, I thought you were holding up a pair of clean (hopefully) underpants, fresh from the dryer.
ReplyDeleteHeh. No, I haven't yet felt the need to share photos of my drawers with the world yet!
