If you're a regular reader of my blog (as millions are) you'll know that I am not a fan of 3D films.
I will admit that when 3D movies are filmed properly (like Avatar) they can be spectacular. Unfortunately the vast majority of them are shot in plain old 2D and then hastily converted to inferior after-the-fact 3D in post production.
I hate these post-converted 3D films with a white hot passion and avoid them whenever possible. I don't know anyone who likes them, but Hollywood keeps churning them out because it means they can squeeze and extra three or four dollars from the wallets of each customer and artificially inflate the box office gross.
But at long last there's a small, dim ray of hope.
I saw this handy chart today, detailing the horrifying explosion of unnecessary and unwanted 3D films. Not surprisingly, Avatar appears to have been the catalyst that kicked off the whole sorry trend back in 2009. According to the chart 2011 was a really bad year if you hate 3D.
But last year looks like it was a little less grim and so far 2013 is looking even better.
Could the detestable 3D fad finally be dying a well-deserved and overdue death? Cheezus, I hope so. I'll be the first in line to giddily dance on its grave.
