Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1, Episode 3: The Asset

I don't have a whole lot to say about this episode. I hate to admit it by my enthusiasm for the series is starting to wane.

Thoughts:
• I liked the reveal that the stereotypical trucker was actually a capable S.H.I.E.L.D. operative in disguise.

• The truck driver was driving a S.H.I.E.L.D. vehicle disguised as an ordinary semi truck. I noticed the "Rocky Mountain Office Supply" logo on the side looked suspiciously like the one for Office Max.

• So this episode is basically the origin story of how Dr. Franklin Hall becomes Graviton (who's pretty much the same as Magneto, but with gravity). Hooray! A real live super villain from the Marvel Universe! But we don't actually get to see him become Graviton until the last five seconds of the episode. Boo!

Why the hell didn't he turn into Graviton in the first five minutes of the episode, so we might actually see something super happen?

Yes, battles with super-powered bad guys are expensive to film, but Smallville did it every week for ten seasons (!) and Fringe did it quite often as well. So why not here? Why didn't we get to see Graviton tearing open bank vaults with a wave of his hand until Coulson brought him down with some high-tech S.H.I.E.L.D. weapon?

I was willing to give this show a chance, but they're gonna have to ramp up the comic book angle if they want to keep me tuning in. Right now it's more like watching CSI or Criminal Minds or shows of that ilk than something from the Marvel Universe. Name-dropping the Avengers each week just ain't cutting it.

I know I keep bringing up Fringe, but they had the perfect tone that this show needs to emulate. Interesting characters trying to deal with the weird and bizarre things they're confronted with each week.

• When Coulson says he's going on the rescue mission, May balks and says that's not a good idea. Coulson reminds her that he saw "plenty of action" with the Avengers. Really? Because it seemed to me like he was too busy being killed by Loki to see much action with them.

• Again with Skye and her "is she or isn't she" a mole schtick. It's only the third episode and I'm already tired of that storyline.

• Where did Ian Quinn get his cool disintegration fence and where can I buy one to put around my yard?

• Gravitonium? Cheezus, I thought "Dalekanium" from Doctor Who topped the list of ridiculous fictional element names. Apparently any word can become the name of an element as long as you add "ium" to the end.

• Nice Inception-style crazy gravity effect, I guess. Now that I think about it I don't think I've ever seen that attempted on TV.
