What Happened To The Art Of Movie Poster Design: Escape Plan: The Extractors

What the hell happened to the art of movie poster design?

This week I saw this wonderful poster for the upcoming Sylvester Stallone movie, Escape Plan: The Extractors.

As hard as it is to believe, this is allegedly a real, legitimate poster and not the work of a first year design student. Yikes!

I don't know element I like most. Maybe it's the look of sheer misery and boredom on Sly's face. Or the harsh, flat lighting on him and Dave Bautista, which looks like it was taken with a cell phone camera. Sly's look of sheer misery and boredom is a nice touch as well.

I think my favorite part are the people behind the two main figures, who've been clumsily cut and pasted into the background. It's always the mark of quality when a figure's in sharp focus, but the area around them is blurry.

Hat's off to whoever forgot this poster was due, and designed it in five minutes on the way to the meeting with the studio heads.

By the way, I saw the original Escape Plan back in 2013. Color me surprised to find out that this new film is apparently the THIRD installment in the franchise! There was a second movie? I had no idea. When the hell did that happen?

I would suggest that maybe the subsequent entries are direct-to-video, but that doesn't seem like something Stallone would go for.

Prepare For The Damage!
