R.I.P. Scott Wilson

Damn, damn, DAMN! Another celebrity obit. Scott Wilson, aka Hershel Greene of The Walking Dead, died Saturday at 76. He reportedly died due to complications from leukemia.

Oddly enough he died just one day before the Season 9 premiere of The Walking Dead.

Although most people know him as Hershel Greene, Wilson starred in dozens of major motion pictures, including In The Heat Of The Night, In Cold Blood, The Great Gatsby, The Right Stuff, Dead Man Walking (heh... dead... walking) and many others.

I sheepishly have to admit that even though I've seen most of those movies, I never noticed him in any of them, and wasn't aware of him until he appeared as Hershel.

I met Scott Wilson in 2014 at a horror convention. He was very nice and accommodating, and even at 72 seemed more energetic than me. I told him I missed seeing him on The Walking Dead, and the show wasn't the same without him. He said he loved working on the series, and missed it as well.

I told him I'd read they made a very realistic animatronic head of him for his death scene on the show, and asked if that was true. He said yes, and after filming wrapped he took it home and stuck it in a trash bag in his closet! There aren't a lot of people who can say that.

Glad I got to meet him when I did.
