DATELINE: LONDON, ENGLAND—
This week Sir Ridley Scott, director of the upcoming film ALIEN: Covenant, stated that he's nowhere near finished with the popular sci-fi franchise.
In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, the seventy nine year old director claimed he has plans for another SIX prequels to the original 1979 film ALIEN. That's in addition to ALIEN: Covenant, by the way.
Scott's plan would bring the total number of films in the series to twelve, EIGHT of which would be prequels.
The 2012 prequel Prometheus delved into the origin of the alien Xenomorph species, who were the antagonists in the first four films (ALIEN, ALIENS, ALIEN 3 and ALIEN: Resurrection).
It's unclear at this point just how there could be enough additional material regarding the species' origin left to fill another six films. As with all good movie monsters, the less the audience knows about them, the more terrifying they are. Scott's plans would definitely eliminate any remaining possible mystery surrounding the Xenomorphs, examining them in minute detail.
“If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six," Scott told the Herald. "I’m not going to close it down again. No way.”
