The Doctors Are In!

Wow, that's too way too much awesomeness to be contained in one photo!

The BBC just announced that Tenth Doctor David Tennant has signed on to star alongside current Doctor Matt Smith in the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special airing later this year. Woohoo!

Billie Piper, who played the Doctor's companion Rose Tyler during Tennant's run, is also on board.

Piper's presence raises a few questions. Last I remember Rose was living on Pete's World (a slightly more advanced parallel Earth in another dimension) with the Tenth Doctor's human clone (don't ask). So will we be seeing the real Tenth Doctor in the Anniversary Special or his reasonable facsimile?

I wish I had one of those CSI computers with the magical "zoom in and enhance" function so I could read the front of the scripts in their hands.

So far Tennant is the only former Doctor who's confirmed for the Special. It would be the greatest episode ever if they could somehow manage to bring back all the previous Doctors, but sadly that's just not possible. The first three actors have unfortunately passed away and the fourth through sixth have aged too much to realistically return. The Seventh and Eight Doctors still look enough like their former selves that they could probably come back, but so far there's no news of them doing so. The Ninth Doctor has some beef with the BBC and likely won't be returning even if asked.

So unless the Beeb can pull off some miracle through the magic of CGI it looks like we'll have to settle for a caper involving just 10 & 11, in a no-holds barred fight to the finish over whose hairdo is tallest.
