Pot, Kettle, Black

This week in an interview with Yahoo, director Tim Burton criticized Marvel Studios for pumping out cookie cutter superhero films.

Burton said, "Marvel, they have their thing and there's a certain formula to it all, which seems to still be working. But how many times can you say, 'You're wearing a funny costume' with the tights and stuff? That's been going on for twenty years now. Yes, we all know that superheroes are damaged individuals. Maybe we need to make a happy superhero?"

Strong words indeed from the quirky director. But you know, there may be something in what he says.

After all, Burton is one of the most successful directors of the past thirty years, so he should know what he's talking about. Does he rely on the same old formula? Hardly!

Such an auteur would definitely never repeat himself.

Tim Burton is a man of vision! There's no way he'd ever dress his characters in funny costumes over and over, like those hacks at Marvel Studios.

And he'd never use damaged characters... uh...with the same old "daddy issues" in each film.

No sir! Tim Burton is... I'm sorry, I forgot what I was saying.

Oh for frak's sake!

Jesus, this is starting to become embarrassing. Is that it? Is that finally the last one?

Fine. Let's all agree to make a pact, and the next time Tim Burton starts talking, we'll all say, "What's that?" like we heard someone calling us, and we'll get up and walk out of the room.
