Crosses Don't Bother Jewish Dracula

 

Today's Tip: When choosing supernatural defenses, know the religion of the vampire you may encounter.

Here's the original sketch. As you can see, Jewish Dracula didn't change much at in in the final, but I reworked the victim quite a bit.

The Count Takes Mr. Flappington Out For Walkies

Hey, it's another vector drawing!

This drawing kind of reminds me of when I was a kid. My dad would catch a junebug, tie a tread to one of its legs and hand it to me. The junebug would take off flying, and I'd walk around the yard holding onto its "leash." Take that, PETA!

I'm starting to like working in vector more and more. I didn't much like it the first time I dabbled in it, mostly because it took so incredibly long to draw anything. But the more I use vector, the faster I get. I did this one in about 3 hours or so. A far cry from the days it took to do this one in 2009.

The Count and the bat were drawn in InDesign. I then imported them into Photoshop where I added the painterly background (including splatters), because that's something you just can't do very well in vector.
Here's the original sketch of the Count. Note that originally he was going for a stroll in the sun, with an umbrella to prevent him from "sparkling" (call me old fashioned, but in my day vampires burst into flames when exposed to the sun). I decided that walking his bat would make a more interesting drawing.

Flapula

Now that the "Twilight" movies have got the entire country interested in sexy vampires, Flapula is confident that any day now he'll be surrounded by adoring females.

So far he's still waiting...

The Rare And Deadly Vampire Walrus

Scientific Name: Odobenus Rosmarus Nosferatus.

The Vampire Walrus is indigenous to the Arctic circle. It preys mostly on unsuspecting Eskimos, who have few defenses against them, given the lack of naturally growing garlic and Christian crosses.

The Vampire Walrus' wings are mostly for show, as they are far too small to lift its impressive bulk off the ground.

I'm not too proud to admit I had to google photos of a walrus to draw this. You think you know what a walrus looks like, but then you start drawing one and suddenly you realize you have no idea what the nose looks like, or if they have ears, or do they have a tail or flippers. I do know that they don't really have bat wings.

Count Gothula

Another drawing based on a doodle I drew.

As usual I struggled to come up with a suitable background. After many trials and much error I found a Photoshop brush that simulated watercolors pretty well, and drew a bloody background for the Count.
