Professor Birdbrain

New character based on a sketchbook doodle.

Try as I might, I just couldn't quit fiddling with this illustration. I kept adding details and making little adjustments, picking at it like a scab. I finally had to force myself to leave it alone and post it already. Hopefully I stopped at the right place.

Drawn in Photoshop on the graphic tablet. The text was hand lettered and not a font.

Here's the original doodle of the Professor.

The Latest In Body Modification

Once you've covered every square inch of skin with ink and pierced everything that can be pierced, what's left to modify? Why, your skull of course! Introducing the See-Thru Skull Plate! Now when someone says, "Whassamatter pal, ain'tchoo got no brain?" you can proudly point to the plate glass window in your head and say, "Why yes I do!"

Features shatter proof tempered glass, stainless steel frame and industrial grade gaskets to prevent leaks. Available at finer tattoo parlors everywhere.

This is a vector drawing, drawn all in InDesign.

This illustration went through a lot of versions and revisions. Like always, it started out as a sketch.

Which then led to this drawing. I stared at it for a week or so, and decided I just didn't like it. There was just something about it that I didn't like. I think part of the problem was that he looked more like a cliched jungle tribesman than an urban body mod enthusiast.

So I tried again. I got rid of his unruly mop of hair and gave him a shaved head, and that seemed to help.

Corey O'Blongata

Corey's been having headaches lately, so his doctor asked him to bring in a sample. Too bad the doc didn't specify he needed a urine sample.

Corey's a member of the O'Blongatas, a fine old family from the Irish part of the galaxy.

Drawn in Photoshop on the graphic tablet. For some reason I have a really hard time drawing the intricate folds of the brain, and getting them to look right. Luckily I never, ever draw brains, so it's not a problem for me. That's a joke, son.

Here's the original sketch of Corey. When I started drawing him for real, I felt that his body was a little too gangly, so I shrunk it down a bit.

Runaway Brain!

Watch your feet everybody! Runaway brain coming through!

Drawn in Photoshop on the graphic tablet.

Here's the original sketch. I like the looseness of the sketch, and tried to preserve that in the final drawing, however, his pose is all wrong here. The guy's all bent over, when his entire body should be leaning forward as if he's running at top speed.

Here's the second sketch. His running pose is better here, conveying movement and speed. I'm not sure what that tail trailing behind the brain is supposed to be. A spinal cord? Nerves? I don't know. I ended up deleting the tail in the final drawing.

Have A Slice!

"Can I tempt you with a slice? Please, I insist. What's that? You're dieting? No problem, it's low in fat! No? Perhaps later th... I'm sorry, what were we talking about? Do you smell wind chimes?"

Drawn in Photoshop on the graphic tablet.

Here's the original sketch. I made a lot of changes in the final drawing, mostly cleaning up proportions and such.
