Xmas Relic

It's the Holiday Season, so you know what that means— it's time for tons of overpriced and bizarre Xmas ornaments to line the shelves of your local Hallmark store! Let's see what offerings they have this year.

How about this Star Trek: The Next Generation ornament? It's based on the Season 6 episode Relics, in which Scotty wakes from suspended animation and finds himself in the 24th Century, where he meets Captain Picard & crew.

Yikes! What the hell happened to poor ol' Scotty here? I get that they had to put the ornament hook somewhere, but Jaysis! Did they have to stick it right in his shoulder? It looks for all the world like our Mr. Scott was in a really bad accident in Engineering!
It's even worse when viewed from the other side! Holy crap! Now it looks like the Klingons harpooned Scotty right in the top of his noggin!

Star Trek Casting Call

This week it was announced that actor Idris Elba has been cast in the upcoming film Star Trek 3: The Trekening. No one is quite sure exactly what role Elba will be playing, but it's rumored he'll be a Klingon in the film. Actor Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the revamped films and is also writing the third installment, has adamantly denied these rumors.

Oy gevalt. Here we go again!

You'll no doubt recall the whole Khan debacle that surrounded Star Trek Into Darkness a couple of years ago. When the film's first trailer was released, fans immediately assumed that actor Benedict Cumberbatch would be playing Khan, the role originated on TV by Ricardo Montalban.

Director JJ Abrams emphatically denied that Cumberbatch was playing Khan, assuring fans he'd be playing someone named John Harrison instead. Of course it turned out that Abrams was lying through his lying teeth, and Cumberbatch was indeed Khan in the ersatz remake of the best of the Star Trek films.

One can't help but wonder if Pegg is now lying as well, and Elba really is starring as a Klingon in the new movie.

But what if for once someone involved in these films is actually telling the truth? It's a stretch, I know, but it's slightly possible. If  Elba isn't a portraying a Klingon, then who is he playing?

Obviously there's only one answer. In a masterstroke of the color-blind, all-inclusive and diverse casting that's rampant in the film industry today, Idris Elba will be playing Edith Keeler, Captain Kirk's love interest in a film version of the popular episode The City On The Edge Of Forever. It's the only possible answer.

You heard it here first!

Out Of Context Star Trek Moment

I've been an avid Star Trek fan for many decades, but even I have to admit that certain episodes could get a little silly now and then, especially when viewed out of context.

So sit back and enjoy this Out Of Context Star Trek Moment!

You two think you're a coupla' little cutie pies, don't ya?
