RECORD-BREAKING ANTI CHRISTMAS CREEP UPDATE: R.I.P. The Neighbor's Xmas Tree

It is with the deepest sadness that I must report that the neighbor's Xmas tree, which has been shining merrily away in their living room window since November 8, 2016, has finally been taken down.

I was really hoping the tree would make it to the first of April, but it apparently succumbed and was taken down sometime last night. It will be missed.

The tree is survived by a faded, non-holiday specific wreath on the front door, and a pile of bricks bought for a forgotten yard project that have been sitting at the side of the house for two years.

ANOTHER ANTI-CHRISTMAS CREEP UPDATE!

Back on November 8, 2016, I wrote that I spotted the first Xmas tree of the season in the window of a home in my neighborhood. That was almost two full months before Xmas, which seemed way, wayyyyy to early to be puttin' up a damned tree.

Then on January 29, 2017, I went for a walk and around the neighborhood and noted that the tree was still up, over two months after it first appeared.

The tree blazed brightly away through the entire month of February, and so far it's still up more than two weeks into March!

That's right, here we are on March 17, and the thing's still shining merrily away in their window. Amazing!

For those of you scoring at home, this Christmas tree has now been in the window of this house for at least 129 days. As I said, I first spotted it on November 8 of last year, so it's entirely possible it was put up a few days before I saw it.

129 days! That's over four months! Over a third of a year! Can the tree stay up until this Christmas? A month ago I'd have said "impossible," but now... I think it has a shot!

Then on January 29, 2017, I went for a walk and around the neighborhood and noted that the tree was still up, over two months after it first appeared.

So far the tree's been blazing brightly all through February. I kept hoping it'd make it to the end of the month, but I was sure there was no way. No one could possibly be that lazy busy to keep a tree up to the end of February.

Welp, I went by today and it's STILL up! That's right, it's now February 28, and the tree's still shining merrily away in the window. Amazing!

For anyone who picked February 28 in the "How Long Will The Xmas Tree Stay Up" pool, congratulations! 

For those of you scoring at home, this Christmas tree has now been in the window of this house for at least 112 days. As I said, I first spotted it on November 8 of last year, so it's entirely possible it was put up a few days before I saw it.

112 days! That's almost four months! Almost a third of a year! Can the tree stay up until this Christmas? A month ago I'd have said "impossible," but now... I think it has a shot!

Welp, I went for a walk this morning before work, and as you can see above, the tree's still proudly blazing away in the window. On February 15th, 2017. Over three months after it was first spotted.

For anyone who picked Valentine's Day in the "How Long Will The Xmas Tree Stay Up" pool, congrats! Step up and collect your winnings!

I can think of several explanations as to why this Xmas tree is still up: 

1. The homeowners are reeeeeally lazy, and just haven't been able to bring themselves to get up off the couch and take it down.

2. They're getting a reeeeeally big head start on Xmas 2017.

3. The string of lights on the tree shorted out and the plug fused to the outlet, so it's impossible to unplug it, shut it off or take down the tree.

4. The person who lives here unfortunately expired back in November, and their bloated carcass is lying on the floor next to the tree, its lights burning merrily away until they finally flicker and die as well.

Welp, I guess it goes both ways. Last night I went for a walk around the neighborhood and spotted fully lit Xmas trees in the windows of 2, count 'em two homes! It's the end of January! Take 'em down, already! 

I hope they're not real trees, or they'll burst into flame if you even say the word "match." Heck, they'd probably go up like a torch if you even stared at them too hard.

What's the opposite of Christmas Creep? Christmas Bloat? Christmas Stretch?

Christmas Creep 2016

I took Max for a walk tonight (after dark, of course— thanks, Daylight Savings Time) and saw the first Xmas tree of the season in the window of a neighborhood home. Jesus Snowboarding Christ! It's Election Day, for frak's sake!

Putting up your Xmas tree on November 8th  just seems way, way, WAY too unacceptably, ridiculously early to me. And this is just the first day I happened to spot it. It's entirely possible that it's been up since November 1st or even earilier!

Isn't there some rule about not wearing white after Labor Day? I think there needs to be a similar rule— nay, a full blown law— that says no Xmas trees or decorations anywhere near Election Day. 

And November 8th isn't even close to a record. In 2014 I saw a tree up on the 4th! For the sake of these peoples' homeowner's policies I hope they're artificial trees! If they're real trees then by the time Xmas rolls around they'll burst into flames if they're exposed to even a camera flash!

It's none of my business or course, but that just seems way, way, WAY too unacceptably, ridiculously early. And this is just the first day I happened to see it. It's entirely possible that it's been up long before today!

Coming home from work tonight I passed a house in my neighborhood and saw the first Xmas tree of the season. It's November 13th, for Yukon Cornelius' sake! None of my business of course, but that seems way too early.

November the 13th isn't even close to a record. In 2011 I spotted a tree on November 6th! And last year I saw one on the 4th! For the sake of their homeowner's policies I hope they're artificial trees!

I drove past a house in my neighborhood today and saw the first Xmas tree of the season (November 6). None of my business of course, but man, that seems awfully early. I hope for their sake it's a fake tree!
