Space: The Desolate Frontier

Saw this in an old issue of DC Comics Presents. According to this panel, space is really desolate. In fact you can go light years before seeing another celestial body.

Bodies like those planets, moons and nebulae clearly visible in the background.

Trunk Show!

This week DC unveiled the cover for their upcoming Action Comics #1000, which appears to feature Superman wearing his iconic red trunks once again! HUZZAH!!!

DC eliminated the trunks when they redesigned Superman's costume back in 2011. And as regular readers of my blog know all too well, I've been bitching about the missing trunks ever since.

And with good reason! This wasn't just the typical fanboy whinging, this was a legitimate gripe. Just look at this image from the detestable Man Of Steel. His costume looks incomplete without something to break up all that blue. He ends up looking almost... naked without the trunks! Of course that may just be due to his super-bulge in this shot, but I digress.

Incredibly he even lost his boots for a while, which made the "nude look" even more prominent. Thankfully the powers that be came to their senses and brought the boots back early in 2017.

After that Superman then started sporting a red belt, which grew a bit thicker with every passing issue. Eventually the belt almost looked like the missing trunks, which just confirmed my notion that there was something missing from the costume.

I've heard all the arguments from readers who hated the trunks, and were happy to see them go. They ALL referred to the trunks as "underwear," and said they made Superman look silly, as if he had his drawers on over his suit.

Wow. Wait to miss the point there, millennials! Superman's suit was based on old-time wrestlers and bodybuilders from the 1920s and 1930s, who often wore leotards or full body suits. Because the jock strap apparently hadn't been invented yet, these performers often wore a pair of trunks over their suits to provide a buffer between their manhood and the audience. Superman was just aping this look. His costume had nothing to do with underwear!

Thankfully the trunks appear to be back in Action Comics' milestone one thousandth issue. I say "appear," because I'm not totally convinced they're back to stay, as I have a sneaking suspicion they're just showing up for his anniversary issue.

Hopefully I'm wrong though, and DC's seen the error of their ways and have restored Superman's costume back to normal. Looks like all my constant and annoying bitching about them finally paid off after all. To all you fans of the trunks, you're welcome!

That's Super!

I didn't watch Season 1 of Supergirl at all last year (I just didn't have the time), but I did finally start watching Season 2 now that the show's moved over to The CW where it should have been in the first place.

Sadly, I won't be doing any weekly reviews of the series. Nothing against the character of Supergirl or her show, but there are only so many hours in the day, and personnel is stretched pretty thin here at Bob Canada's BlogWorld without adding another show to the mix.

I did want to take time to comment on the addition of Superman to the series this season though. Last year we caught brief glimpses of him on Supergirl, but this year he's finally dropped the coy act and stopped hiding just off camera, and has finally become a semi-regular character.

I'll be honest here— I didn't think much of the casting of actor Tyler Hoechlin as Superman when I first saw the early production photos of him. He seemed way too thin, his face didn't have the necessary square-jawed quality, and he just didn't looks all that... well, super to me.

Happily, after finally seeing him in action, I'm glad to report I'm very impressed with Hoechlin in the role. He makes a damned fine Superman, and seems to know just how to play him. In fact after just two appearances as the Man Of Steel, he's already a better Superman than Henry Cavill will ever be (BURRRN!!!).

Hoechlin also makes a pretty good Clark Kent, playing him as a befuddled and slightly nerdy reporter. In fact his performance as both Superman and Clark Kent were very reminiscent of Christopher Reeve, which I think is awesome. It's not an outright impression or swipe of Reeve's work, but sort of a slight... homage.

Obviously Hoechlin, and more importantly the show's producers actually get Superman, and understand him in a way Zack Snyder never will. This is the way Superman was meant to be portrayed— as a true hero. Someone who dedicates his life to selflessly helping others and his adoptive homeworld.

Compare this to Zack Snyder's Superman, who's nothing but a brooding, sullen god who looks down on humanity with disdain and actively resents his powers.

Hoechlin and Supergirl star Melissa Benoist work well together too. Take the scene in which Superman and Supergirl rescue a plummeting space plane together. Superman flies up alongside Supergirl and asks her if she needs help. Her first words? "Hey, cuz!" Amazing!

I also loved the scene immediately after they save the space plane, when a group of bystanders gawks at them in amazement. Supergirl sheepishly turns to Superman and says, "I usually say hello." Superman says, "Really? Me too!" Delightful!

How amazing to see DC superheroes who are actually FUN! There was more joy and entertainment value in those two brief scenes than in all the recent DC movies combined. How can the TV shows get the characters so right, while the movies— with millions of dollars more in resources— get them so wrong?

All superhero movies and shows don't have to be sweetness and light. There's nothing wrong with an occasional dark movie, featuring a brooding hero. But Superman is not that character. Superman is not a dark avenger. He's a beacon of hope in a hopeless world. I don't get why that's so hard for the movie producers to understand.

One last thing I wanted to point out. In the recent episode The Last Children Of Krypton, Supergirl is injured by the kryptonite-powered villain Metallo. Superman picks up her injured body and poses dramatically for a few seconds before flying off.

This scene is an obvious and very cool homage to Issue #7 of DC's Crisis On Infinite Earths miniseries from 1985, in which Supergirl is actually killed. Pretty awesome!

Man Of Heel(s)

As you no doubt are aware, unless you've been frozen in the Arctic for the past seventy years, the upcoming second season of The CW's Supergirl series will finally feature the appearance of Superman.

The show was constantly teasing his appearance in Season 1, as Supergirl would get encouraging texts from her more famous cousin, or they'd give us a glimpse of his cape or a fleeting shot of his boots. I'm assuming they were playing coy and never actually had him fully appear for some sort of legal or copyright reason.

Welp, that's all changed in Season 2. In an effort to shore up Supergirl's less than super (see what I did there?) ratings, the Man Of Steel will be appearing in all his full-bodied glory.

Right now I'm hoping that Superman will appear sporadically on the show (such as in the opening episode and during Sweeps Weeks), because I don't think it'd be a good idea for him to become a series regular. There's a very real risk of the show shifting its focus exclusively onto him. Superman could very well become the Urkell of Supergirl, and shove her out of the limelight altogether.

Here's a shot of the two of them together. They make a good looking couple, I suppose. Actor Tyler Hoechlin makes an adequate Superman, I guess, as he looks reasonably heroic... wait a minute. Let's zoom in for a second.

Look at those boots that Hoechlin's wearing. Jesus Building-Leaping Christ! He's wearing lifts! His heels are literally bigger than Supergirl's! By a good four or five inches. Holy Compensation, Batman! I wonder what else he's padding under that suit?

I wonder if the producers noticed the two actors were the same height when they stood next to one another, so they jacked up his heels, pronto. Heck, I'm betting he may have even been shorter than her!

Hopefully he practices walking in those things before filming, so he doesn't wobble around and accidentally fall of his heels.

I know this is a horse I've beaten for far too long, but I don't care— this photo also perfectly demonstrates why Superman needs his red trunks to help break up the blue of his suit. Supergirl looks perfect with her little red skirt. Superman still looks like something's missing with his solid blue longjohns. I'll never get used to this look.

Also, as my pal KW Monster pointed out to me, why is Supergirl's "S" emblem (that stands for "hope" in Kryptonian) different from her cousin's? Why doesn't hers have a yellow— sorry, make that dirty mustard—  background? It makes her emblem look cheap and incomplete, and I honestly can't think of any reason to leave it off.

Old School Supergirl from the '80s had a red and yellow emblem  and she looked just fine. So why the change?

If I had to guess, I'd say they changed it for marketing and merchandising purposes. If the characters' emblems are interchangeable, Warner Bros. couldn't sell separate merchandise. They'd only be able to sell one S-shield t-shirt or pendant, and they'd halve their profits. Plus it might be confusing for the customer. "Is this a Superman shirt? I hope so, I don't want to wear a Supergirl shirt in front of my nerd guy friends!"

So I get it, but I don't like it.

Super Cousins

Now that the Supergirl TV series has moved from CBS to The CW where it belongs, the producers announced they've decided to include Kara's cousin Superman in Season 2!

Finally! At long last, we'll no longer be treated to endless scenes of Superman almost showing up. No more teases featuring blurry images of him obscured by sunlight. No more shots of just his hand, or even worse, his boots.

Superman/Clark Kent will be played by actor Tyler Hoechlin, whoever that is. So far it's not known if he'll be in every episode, or appear as the occasional guest star. If I was a bettin' man, I'd guess the latter.

Hoechlin is definitely a more… slender Superman, especially when compared to his cinematic counterpart. Actually I'm OK with that. Christopher Reeve, the best cinematic Superman to date, wasn't a hulking behemoth either.

Based on that photo, Hoechlin seems to have a startlingly small noggin as well. I'm hoping that's just the result of some bad Photoshop retouching or the low angle of the photo.

I see they're going with the horrible, horrible Henry Cavill version of the Superman costume. The one that's way too dark and features a slimy, off-putting lizard-like texture. Worst of all, he's still missing his goddamned trunks. This has been a sticking point for me ever since Man Of Steel, and I'm never going to get used to it.

It's just so bizarre to me that DC has actively issued an edict banishing trunks from all their superhero characters, in an effort to be more "realistic." Because a man who can fly, shoot heat rays from his eyes and bounce bullets off his chest makes perfect sense, but one who wears trunks on the outside of his suit— well, that's just absurd.

Seeing this version of Superman next to Supergirl only highlights the fact that the costume desperately needs something to break up the design and add some much needed color to it. Like a pair of red trunks. His costume just plain looks wrong without them.

And what's up with those lens flares at the side? Are we sure this isn't a JJ Abrams project?

Sounds Like Troub-El To Me

Back in May, the Siffy Channel announced it was producing a new Superman prequel series titled Krypton. This week, they finally released details on the project.

According to Siffy, the series "will be set two generations before the destruction of Superman's home planet, telling the story of his grandfather, who's fighting to restore his family's honor following a public disgrace."

No doubt he'll successfully refurbish the family name just in time for the planet to explode. That's pretty much what has to happen, right? We all know Krypton's destiny. Who wants to watch the struggles of a group of people who are doomed to die in a few years?

On the other hand, that worked out pretty well for Game Of Thrones, so never mind.

The pilot will be written by David S. Goyer, the "screenwriter" of both Man Of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. That right there guarantees I won't be watching. Hell, I may even take an ax to my TV to make sure I don't see even a minute of the show by accident.

Goyer's pilot will no doubt be dark, dreary and full of self-loathing characters wearing grim, pained expressions, who look like they don't want to be in their own show. It's too bad the show's set before Batman V Superman, else Jimmy Olsen could make a cameo and get shot in the head again. Just for fun!

So first we had Gotham, a Batman series without Batman in it, and now we've got a Superman-less Superman series. I honestly don't get the appeal of these types of shows. Who wants to watch a superhero show without any superheroes? Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. suffered from this problem in its first season, but the producers wisely course-corrected and finally started giving us some comic book action.

Siffy released a plot synopsis of the Krypton pilot, and it's a doozy. The show will center around Superman's grandfather Seg-El, an "athletic, quietly confident" man in his twenties. Obviously the Seg-El name is a little nod to Jerry Siegel, the co-creator of Supeman. His possible love interest is Lyta Zod, who has a family tie to General Zod, and is a reluctant warrior.

Also in the cast is Val-El, who's Seg-El's own grandfather, who discovered the Phantom Zone, Ter-El, Superman's great grandfather, and Dev-Em, described as a "Kryptonian juvenile delinquent."

It all sounds like a bunch of Driv-El to me. In fact I'd go so far as to say it's Terrib-El. Dispicab-El, even. The whole thing's Inexcusab-El. It's Unthinkab-El. Whoever greenlit this project is Certifiab-El. OK, I'm done.

The show begins production this summer, and will likely premiere in the fall, just in time for a Christmas cancellation.

Batman V Superman V Logic

This week the new trailer for the Dark Knight V Hopeman, er, I mean Batman V Superman movie was released. Yawn.

I absolutely hated Man Of Steel, and I don't much care for the grim and gritty Nolanesque version of Batman. I'm also not a fan of Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns comic, that this movie's partly based on. So I couldn't be less excited about this film.

The trailer's quite a piece of work, as it neatly spells out the entire plot of the movie in two minutes or less. Seriously, after watching it I could sit down right now and bang out a version of the script that would be virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. I don't see how there could be any surprises left when the actual film premieres next year. Way to go, trailer!

There was one scene in the trailer that I thought was absolutely hilarious and feel compelled to point out, so let the unfair and premature mocking begin!

At one point in the trailer, we see a family clinging precariously to the roof of their home as flood water rise all around them. In desperation they've painted an SOS to Superman, hoping against hope he'll appear and save them in time.

Wow, that is some damned impressive typography they painted on the roof of their house! Especially for people who are busy dying in a flood. They even added the little serif at the top of the "S!" This has got to be the house of a graphic designer.

"Honey, be careful! The sign's good enough! Get away from the edge of the roof before you fall in!"

"Are you crazy, Edna? If I don't get the curve of this S just right if we want Superman to save us! Otherwise he might fly down here and snap our necks in anger!"

Note that they apparently had the foresight to bring a bucket of paint, a brush and a paint tray up onto their roof, but apparently didn't bring any food or blankets.

You know, they could have saved a lot of time and effort and just painted "HELP" on their roof like normal humans would. Now the rescue copters are gonna pass them by because they only want help from Superman.

"Look down there, Joe! Some people trapped on their roof who need our help. You get the rope and I'll hover the copter above 'em."

"Eh, never mind, Charlie! They don't want our help. They're holdin' out fer Supes ta save 'em!"

Kid Of Steel

This week in Florida, a school bus careened out of control and crashed into a lake. Fortunately the students all made it out alive and well, thanks to the efforts of a ten year old boy.

The bus crashed through a signpost, hit a tree and landed on its side in a lake in Hillsborough County, just outside of Tampa. The driver of the bus blamed the crash on faulty brakes.

As the bus lay in the lake, ten year old Nicholas Sierra sprang into action, helping his classmates off the sinking bus. Witnesses say Sierra carried several smaller children out of the bus on his back.

Kudos to Nicholas Sierra for a job well done. Obviously Pa Kent is not his adoptive father.

Worst. Parents. Ever!

Welp, the first trailer for the upcoming Batman V Superman is out. To borrow from the Bard, it's full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I know it's bad form to criticize a movie before it even comes out, but I hate these DC films with the white hot passion of a thousand blazing suns, so I'm doing it anyway.

First, some background. Back in 2013's Man Of Steel, we were introduced to a Pa Kent a little different from previous versions. A Pa who was strangely unconcerned with the welfare of others:

Holy crap, Pa! The super-strong, invulnerable Space Jesus you call your son just saved a school bus full of kids from drowning, and you yell at him for doing so, suggesting he should have just "let nature take its course?"

I'm starting to understand why Hopeman was able to so casually snap Zod's neck at the end of the movie.

Not to be outdone, in Batman V Superman, it looks like Ma Kent's getting in on the act as well. Here she is giving her son some more dubious advice:

Wow.

Awesome advice, Ma Kent! You do realize that this planet is Superman's adopted home now, right? He owes EVERYTHING to this world! His planet exploded, for frak's sake! The Earth literally welcomed him into its open arms and saved his life. God forbid he should lift a finger to save it. He should just sit back and watch as it's ravaged by natural disasters and aliens. I'm sure everything will work out alright without him. In fact, he should take from his adopted homeland. Take and take and take as much as he wants and never give a single thing back. That's the American Way these days, right?

You know, any second I expect Ma Kent's face plate to pop off, revealing she and Pa Kent are both androids being controlled by Lex Luthor. At least then there'd be a good reason for the horrible, horrible parenting advice they've given to their walking nuclear bomb of a son.

Worst. Parents. Ever!

“He Who Questions Training Only Trains Himself At Asking Questions.”

In an interview this week, a spokesman for Warner Bros. discussed the studio's approach to making their DC Comics superhero movies.
"We have a great strategy for the DC films, which is to take these beloved characters and put them in the hands of master filmmakers and make sure they all coordinate with each other."
"There is intensity and a seriousness of purpose to some of these characters. The filmmakers who are tackling these properties are making great movies about superheroes; they aren’t making superhero movies. And when you are trying to make a good movie, you tackle interesting philosophies and character development."
Woah, woah, woah. Let's back up a minute. He said:

"The filmmakers who are tackling these properties are making great movies about superheroes; they aren’t making superhero movies."

Welp, if nothing else, at least now we know who's the official spokesman for DC Comics movies.

“He who questions training only trains himself at asking questions.”

“To learn my teachings, I must first teach you how to learn.”

"Learn to hide your strikes from your opponent and you'll more easily strike his hide."

"When you doubt your powers, you give power to your doubts."

“When you can balance a tack hammer on your head, you will head off your foes with a balanced attack.”

Super Suit

This week CBS began filming the pilot for their Supergirl series. It stars Melissa Benoist as Supergirl. Benoist previously starred in Glee. Oddly enough, The Flash's Grant Gustin is also a Glee alum. What is it with that show and superheroes?

I'm honestly surprised they're calling the series SuperGIRL. Given our politically correct, all-inclusive, hypersensitive society, it's a wonder they didn't call it Super Empowered Young Woman, Unequaled Woman Of Strength or Exceptional Woman Who Don't Need No Man To Tell Her She's Super.

Also this week, CBS released an image of the Supergirl costume:

Eh, it's actually not bad. I like it. It looks quite a bit like the one Supergirl wore in her comics debut way back in 1959. It's also very similar to the one Helen Slater wore in the 1984 Supergirl movie.

Of course DC couldn't help themselves and constructed the costume out of the same scaly, reptilian substance they used for Superman's outfit a couple of years ago in Man Of Steel. Because God forbid they make a costume out of some kind of cloth. It's even festooned with superfluous piping and details just like his.

And just like the Man Of Steel get-up, it's dull, drab and dingy-looking. Would it have killed them to have added a bit of color to it? This is DC we're talking about though, and they firmly believe superhero movies should be dark and joyless affairs, hence the funereal colors.

I took the liberty of lightening the costume in Photoshop. There, now doesn't that look better? Doesn't that look like the costume of someone who's happy to have her powers and actually enjoys being a hero?

I guess it could have been worse. They could have gone with this recent comic version of the costume, complete with useless boot holes that leave the knees unprotected, along with a giant red crotch arrow. Note to DC's comic artists: "Red" and "Crotch" are two words that should never appear next to one another.

Kal-quaman?

This week director Zach Snyder revealed an image of actor Jason Momoa as Aquaman, from the upcoming movie Batman V Superman: Superheroes On Parade.

So apparently at some point in the movie, Aquaman is transformed into Khal Drogo. Got it.

Wow, are you sure Momoa's not playing one of the villains in the film? Someone like Dread Man, or The Deadly Scowl? Seriously, he looks more like a biker gang member / Maori warrior / Burning Man attendant / Rob Zombie than he does the king of Atlantis.

I'm betting this change is due to the perceived lameness of the Superfriends version of the character. You know, the one where he could only talk to fish, not command them, and couldn't stay out of water for more than an hour, to the mirth of the general public.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by Aquaman's new makeover, given the grim, gritty and "grounded" nature of all the DC Comic movies. Superheroes shouldn't be fun, laws no! They should look terrifying and be feared as they kill ten times more innocents than they protect!

Personally I think Momoa would have made a better Sub-Mariner over at Marvel, but what do I know? Marvel Studios currently owns the movie rights to Prince Namor, so I wonder... did DC hire Jason Momoa as Aquaman just to pre-empt a potential Marvel Sub-Mariner movie?

Eleven More Powers DC Is Considering Adding To Superman

Last week DC Comics announced they were adding a brand new power to flagship character Superman.

Because lord knows if ever there was a comic book superhero who's criminally underpowered, it's Superman. With his super strength, speed, flight, invulnerability, x-ray and heat vision, super breath and super ventriloquism— why it's a wonder he was ever able to defeat normal middle-aged doughy human Lex Luthor at all.

Not THAT kind of flare.

The new power, called "Super Flare," debuts in Superman #38. It allows him to take all the energy his body has absorbed from our yellow sun and expel it in one incredibly massive and destructive energy burst. But there's a catch— once he uses his Super Flare, he'll be completely powerless and vulnerable for twenty four hours.
That's still not as stupid as his Super Ability To Throw His Chest Insignia power from Superman II.

DC editors are closely monitoring sales of the book, and if proves to be a hit, expect them to add even more powers to his inventory.

Here are Ten More Powers DC Is Considering Adding To Superman:

• Super Ability To Shake Exactly Two Pills Out Of An Aspirin Bottle Every Time
Not very useful in battle, but comes in really handy when he has a super headache.

• Super Waiter Attention Attraction
Even the most indifferent food server can't ignore Clark when he activates this power.

• Super Closet Organization
He won't stop Darkseid or Braniac with this ability, but man, will it impress Lois and Lana!

• Super Song Lyric Comprehension
Clark will never mistakenly hear "Scuse me while I kiss this guy!" again!

• Super Ability To Fold A Fitted Sheet
A power mortal man can only dream of.

• Super Ear Bud Cord Detangling
No more tossing them in the trash when they tie themselves in knots!

• Super Ability To Pick The Fastest Checkout Line
Because even Superman's super speed is thwarted by a chatty cashier.

• Super Parallel Parking
When Clark activates this power, he pulls perfectly into a spot every time. At long last he'll no longer have to jog back and forth endlessly as he tries in vain to center his car.

• Super Coin Sorting
At last! Superman will no longer have to count out coins and try to fit them into flimsy paper tubes!

• Super Ability To Identify Obscure Actors While Watching Movies Or TV Shows
Never again will Clark lose track of the plot while trying to decide if he's watching David Keith or Keith David.

• Super Map Refolding
Not all that relevant in a digital world, but maybe GPS doesn't work in Smallville.

The Case Of Batman V Superman

In nerd news today, Warner Bros. released the official title of their upcoming Superman 2 film: Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Whew! What a mouthful. I feel like I need to sit down after saying it.

As I made clear last year, I was less than impressed with Man Of Steel -- aw, who am I kidding, I absolutely hated it. So I have little or no interest in anything to do with this follow up. They can call this one Dark Knightman Clashes Against Hopeman and it won't be any skin off my nose.

I do think the odd wording is kind of amusing though. You know, using "v" instead of the usual "vs." abbreviation. It looks for all the world like Batman is suing Superman.
All rise! The Gotham City Municipal Court is now in session. Case #105, Batman v Superman. The honorable Judge Morris Mendelbaum presiding. Please be seated.
Obviously the subtitle is hinting at a future Justice League Of America movie. Marvel's The Avengers movie grossed an astonishing $1.5 BILLION dollars worldwide, so Warner Bros. wants some of that sweet, sweet super team crossover money. Never mind that Marvel slowly, carefully and deliberately spent five years setting up a cinematic universe before releasing their super team opus. Warner ain't got time for that; they want that dough now, world-building be damned.

And how messed up is it that the sequel to Man Of Steel gives Batman top billing? Jesus, I see people standing on street corners holding "Will Work For Food" signs who could probably handle this film series with more competence. I don't see any hope for this franchise. Even if that's what the symbol on Superman's chest stands for.

Smile!

I've been a big fan of the art of Alex Ross for many years now. He specializes in photo-realistic portrayals of superheroes, and his work is nothing short of amazing and awe inspiring.

Most of the time.

Take a look at this variant cover he did for the upcoming final issue of the Life With Archie comic.

By Stan Lee's Toupee! What the hell happened here? I don't know if I've ever seen a more sinister and disturbing piece of art. Everything about it, from the detailed rendering to the bizarre and extreme angle is downright terrifying.

First of all you've got a smug looking Jughead in the foreground silently judging you, as if he's somehow privy to all the darkest secrets you hide from the world. Then you've got Archie positively leering down at you in the most unwholesome way possible. Note that Ross even attempted to translate that grid pattern on the sides of Archie's hair into reality, with unsettling results. What did he do, press his head in a waffle iron? And then we have Betty and Veronica, both sporting unholy rictus grins as they've apparently been exposed to the Joker's Smilex Gas.

I guess the lesson to take away from here is that some comics weren't meant to be rendered realistically.

Meet Your New Lex Luthor

Welp, this happened today. Warner Bros. announced they've chosen actor Jesse Eisenberg to play Lex Luthor in the upcoming Man Of Steel 2 or Superman Vs. Batman or Giant Superheroes All Out Attack or whatever the hell they're calling it.

What's the matter, was Michael Cera busy? Heck, forget Cera, why not hire DJ Qualls for the part?

I'm sure Mr. Eisenberg is a fine actor and who knows, he may surprise me and pull it off. But he would not have been my first choice to play Luthor. In the comics Luthor has traditionally been older than Superman. Both Eisenberg and Henry Cavill (who played Superman in Man Of Steel) are 30 years old, although they certainly don't look it. Eisenberg looks 21 at the most.

Honestly I really don't care. Let 'em cast whoever they want. I hated Man Of Steel and this one feels like more of the same. I don't care enough to work up any nerd outrage over this news.

Say, I wonder if the plot will involve Lex dreaming up some kind of outlandish real estate scheme? You know, like he's done in two different films already?

I know it's not fair to judge a movie before it even begins filming, but I feel like asking for a ticket refund right now.
